This has been Hungry? Herbie’s mission statement since opening day in July of 1957. Founded by the Cottrell family )of Surplus Herby’s fame), whose philosophy was to give the customer, fresh, quality food in a sparkling clean environment with friendly service.

The restaurant was sold to Jim and Helen Pittman in 1960 who spent the next 5 years working day and night to perfect the recipes and standards that survive to this day.

In 1970 after a period of 5 years outside the family, Jim and Helen’s son, Bill Pittman took over the business and acted as “Herbie” for the ext 37 years. Bill is the man responsible for resisting the ways of other fast food companies in the 70’s and sticking to his guns to retain quality fresh food. Home cut fries, fresh baked buns and real ice cream all made to order are hard to find anymore, but thanks to Bill you can still find them here at Herbie’s.

In 1993 Bill hired Bob Dowse from Winnipeg to manage the store which he did until June of 2007. In December of 2007 Bob bought the business (after a training period of 15 years!) and continues to carry on the traditions and recipes that have been key to Herbie’s success for over 63 years!
